RYAN HIGGINS CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE STROGER SALES TAX REPEAL
Criticizes Alderman Preckwinkle for her desire to delay sales tax repeal until 2012

ROSELLE, IL - Ryan Higgins, Republican nominee for State Representative in the 56th District, called on Chicago Alderman Toni Preckwinkle (4th Ward) to abandon delay tactics on the total repeal of the Stroger Sales Tax Increase.  Preckwinkle has been quoted by several media sources regarding her support to keep the sales tax intact through 2012 and perhaps later.

"As the Democratic nominee for Cook County Board President, Alderman Preckwinkle should know that families in Cook County, and especially in the 56th District, are at the breaking point when it comes to oppressive taxation," said Higgins.

The 1% Stroger Sales Tax Increase, implemented in March 2008, increased the sales tax in Chicago and Cook County to 10.25%, the highest in the country.  The Cook County Board later voted to repeal ½% of the tax increase, leaving the remainder of the tax increase intact.

"As families and businesses in the 56th District and Cook County face rising unemployment, the specter of a 33% state income tax increase, and the rising cost of living, the last thing we need is to keep the final remaining piece of the unjust Stroger Sales Tax Increase," added Higgins.
